The Following are highlights of the December 2016 meeting:
Rensselaer County Legislature unanimously approved the 2017 budget. After much consideration we were able to reduce the tentative budget even further under the 2% tax cap.
Indigent Legal Defense Reform: We urged Governor Cuomo to sign the Indigent Legal Defense Reform bill. Sadly, this request was vetoed early January, therefore keeping the burden of providing this mandated service with the County.
Van Rensselaer Manor Holiday Gift: All Legislators chipped into their private funds to purchase a refrigerator for the Van Rensselaer Manor residents, which was presented to them at a holiday party.
We honored The McCarthy Charities for its 100th Anniversary dedicated to improving the quality of life in Rensselaer County.
We also commended Hillís Stationary Store for serving the City of Troy for 96 years before John Hill decided to retire. Thank you John, we will miss you and the store.
