District Two - Towns of East Greenbush, North Greenbush, Poestenkill 

 

Tom Grant was elected to the Rensselaer County Legislature, representing the Towns of East Greenbush, North Greenbush  and Poestenkill, for a four year term that commenced on January 1, 2018.

Prior to his County Legislative Term, Tom served as an East Greenbush Town Councilman.

Tom has served as an elected East Greenbush Town Councilman, as a Mediator, as a Certified Correctional Auditor for the American Correctional Association and as a Technical Consultant to the television series Law & Order:  SVU.

Tom is a retired New York State Parole Board Commissioner and was a former Legislative Director for the New York State Senate.

Tom is a member of the Board of Directors of Mediation Matters, the Family and Friends of Homicide Victims, the New York State Dispute Resolution Association,  the Rensselaer Elks, the East Greenbush Kiwanis, the Friends of East Greenbush Library and the Rensselaer County Re-Entry Task Force.

Tom earned his undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Arts) from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh and his graduate degree (Master of Science) from the State University of New York at Albany

As a County Legislator, Tom is a member of the following Legislative Committees: Judiciary & Public Safety, Contracts and Agreements and Chairman of the Social Services Committee. He is also a legislative representative to the following boards:  Rensselaer County Emergency Communications, Rensselaer County Fire Advisory and the Rensselaer County Heroin Coalition. 

Tom is married to the former Eileen Sweitzer and they are the proud parents of two adult sons: Tom and John.
